Bill found the latest member of our zoo this morning. Terry Tarantula has surfaced. He/She is a nice mature one measuring about 5 inches across. Our Oklahoma Browns are also called Texas Brown Tarantulas. They roam across OK, TX, AR and MO. In the fall, we now know to watch for their migration.
Tarantulas are helpful little creatures. They eat grasshoppers, bugs, ants, and unfortunately baby birds. Hopefully, our momma birds will keep their babies safe. I think we have enough other goodies to eat that Terry will stay away from them.
Tarantulas are not venomous. If you are bit it is like a bee sting. For several years growing up we had a family of them living under a rock in the driveway.
I
will never pick Terry up in my hand,
shudder shudder. But I will watch her as she goes about her daily business.
