More Stuff

 They delivered all the metal, so there is no excuse for not getting the roof on. Love the copper for the roofs over the West Wing eyebrow and the Residence tower. They say it will even patina like real cooper.

Lots and lots of metal screws. They should leave us any left overs. The screwheads match the metal exactly. All painted the same color.

 Work is happening! We thought they were putting in W valleys and they are just doing flashing. Maybe the W valleys go on later? We just have to have faith everything is being done correctly.

 Hopefully OSHA doesn't come out to the jobsite; there are no safety harnesses being used. Their bracing is laying on the ground and not on the roof. They do have workmen's comp insurance so we should be protected if an accident happens.

 Now that is progress! It is looking as if it is one building now.

The Drive Works

When we were laying out the driveway we wanted it to be an easy access. We are getting older with our driving and sometimes you need big things brought back to the garage. We just wanted to have a drive that would work for everything. But, we didn't want it to be so  huge that it would look ridiculous..

Success! A semi can make the turn.

 Of course, he was probably a super driver also.

More Grandkid Fun

We got back on the Residence roof to finish putting the fascia up on the entry tower. The three big grandkids were with us and had to get in on the fun.

Sutton was in charge of driving the scissorlift onto the boards to level the scissorlift. We have to level it  to put it up to the height we need for our work.

Sutton is our guy that has no fear thought the extension ladder was the cat's meow. Mallory climbed to the top but did not get off the ladder. Wyatt went half way up and was just fine with going no higher. No pictures of those two because I was right behind Wyatt to give him support and Mallory climbed up in a cage made by my arms.

 Teamwork is what it is all about. Wyatt, our engineer, is helping Bill decide which boards are the right height to go under.

 Sutton drives the Scissorlift while Bill & Mallory ride. Yes, that is our 3 year old grand daughter 16 feet in the air. She has handles she has to have her hands on at all times and her big brother or Pa stand behind her for added protection. She loves it!

This is the part of the roof that has everyone scratching their heads. How are they going to make it watertight.

Expectation vs Reality

Before the 4th of July weekend we actually had some of the roof material delivered. We were told that when we got back from our 4 day weekend that all that material would be up and the rest delivered on Monday.

 Hm,-m-m-m they didn't get very far did they? We think, they are really confused now that they are out and doing the work on how to actually do the tie in to the existing buildings.

This was a big disappointment after being told to expect about a third of it to be done when we got home.

Trim Work

Roof may be going on and the framer didn't finish his job. He was suppose to put the fascia on around the eyebrow and the tower. So it's left up to us to do; so things will be ready for the roof.

 Driving the scissor lift out of the West Wing. It is a tight fit and Bill gets to drive on his knees. He asked if I wanted to get it out and I looked at him like he was crazy, I am not going to be the one who drives it through a wall.

 This is the highest we have ever taken the scissor lift. It was extended as high as it would go. The driveway is sloped so we had to have one side up on wood. It was a little wobbly so being the safe people we are we tied it off to the tower. There was no way it could come down but it made us feel safer. It alarms if you are not level. On the sides we had to use the extension ladder to go up because we couldn't get level enough for it to be happy.

 We needed the extra battery for the drill gun so Wyatt loaded it into a bucket for us to haul up.

Here we are on the highest part of the house. Didn't finish the fascia but it is on enough the roofers can do their job. That is h ot work at the end of the day working at a rock yard.;

Is It Really Happening

Yesterday Wyatt and I came home to a guy actually working on the roof. I guess they didn't want to have the crooked screw lines so they are adding wood to attach the metal to.

Hopefully, this means metal will be going up today.

Emotional Rollercoaster

This garage and its roof has been a roller coaster of emotions for us. Excitement, disappointment,  happiness, anger, relief, suspicion. I don't know where we fall right now. When we got back from dinner last night we spied two guys sitting on our roof. They quickly scramnbled down and said they were waiting for their boss.

After we hung around outside checking on things their boss arrives an hour later than he had told them he would be there. Whew, they were supposed to be there. A little unsure when strangers are hanging around and they don't speak enough English for you to get a lot of their story.

 The boss kept calling us over and saying there is a small issue here we need to discuss. This is the big one the framers didn't go at 90 degrees. They probably couldn't because of the funny angles.The rafters are crooked. This means when they screw the metal on our screw lines will be crooked. Did we want them to fix this? No, who is going to be above the roof line to see crooked screws. Only the Air Force as the AWAC planes fly overhead. Just put the roof on. We still don't notice the crooked boards so I don't think the lines are going to be too far off. He pointed out that our front window is crooked; had to explain it is an optical illusion.  The window is not crooked it's that the floor slopes because the two buildings are at different elevations. Once the dry wall goes up you won't notice. 

Came home this morning after buying groceries for the long weekend and there is a work truck there. The boss is on the roof of the Residence checking for the source of the leaks that the previous owner had. We think the old ones are fixed but there seem to be a few new ones have sprung up with the roof framing going up. Having the experts check it out; if we can avoid climbing around a high metal roof we will.
