It's a Family Affair

Time to put the curved wall up. Need some help from either some people or a couple of octopus. Luckily, the grandkids spent the night and we have some boys to help. Then Tiffany showed up and she got to join in the fun.

 Of course, our new kitty and a grand dog had to get into the action. Brynnlee was in charge of the animals.










Wyatt wants to learn how to do everything. Including putting a nail through the base plate and into the concrete.
He did it! I'm not strong enough to get it done but this 12 year old is.



Sutton had to give it a try also.

Top and Bottom

Our curved wall is a little more intricate to build. After I made the bottom pattern we needed to make a template so we could match the top of the wall. These top and bottom boards are called plates.

Our fail safe; in case of a problem. Made a cardboard pattern of the curve. The lines would show how the pieces of cardboard match up in case they separate.

 OSB cut to match the curve. That is adhered to the 12 inch boards to join everything together permanently.

The wall board just slipped right into the spot on the floor between the boards. Accurate measurement!!!!!

He Had Me Do What

We are using very few straight walls in the house. The wall between the bedroom/laundry and the dining room is going in with this phase. It is the wall you see when you come in to the house so we want a pretty curve to it. Our first thought was just a inward curve but that took too much space out of the bedroom and laundry. Bill left and gave me the task of finding the shape. He put down boards to show walls and tape measure to mark the laundry room door opening. He cut a bunch of boards in 12 inch lengths. This size of boards is easy to work with in a curve.


  
I tried using several different sizes of screwdrivers and then folded paper to get even spacing between the boards. Nothing worked so I needed to just eyeball it.

Lay it out and then retry with another shape.



After I got the shape I wanted; ran a pencil line on the concrete. It is easier to see any problems with a line than the boards.




Didn't like that line; move boards to a different angle.

 Then onto my handy dandy Power Grab to glue the boards down until Bill has time to nail them to the floor.

 

Floor swept, couple of lines of the adhesive, final blow of any dust, fingers crossed it will look good and put the boards down.
 

I like it, just enough to add interest with looking weird.

Who Needs Floor Plans

There are no official floor plans for this house. Since we are doing it ourselves we can make it up as we go along. I had Bill meet with a builder so if one day he says he is tired or doesn't want to build any more we can call Kurt to finish up. At that point we will need to be a little more planned out. Until then we usse what is lying around.
