Honey, I Shrank the Closet

There is a great closet for the existing bedroom. But, we need a hallway to connect it and the third bedroom to the bathroom they will share. The only place to put this hall is through the closet. So we will be cutting the closet in half. Will still be a large closet just not as big.

After we sold the lake house this summer and all our clothes and shoes came home the closet was overflowing.

We got 5 of these covered wardrobes and started moving everything into them. This has made us go through our closet and get rid of what needs to be donated.

These are about as dust proof as you can get. They are in the not yet built Trophy room. So to get to our clothes you leave the Apartment walk through the Residence, through the Garage, down the South Beach hall and into the Trophy Room. Having to do this should keep us moving right along and not being slow in the building process.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

The part of the building we are building into the house is just an open floor plan metal building. To make it into a house we need to add plumbing. The floor is concrete with the sewer line running under the concrete.

Men love tools and now Bill gets to operate a jack hammer. He even added catcalls when I walked by to make it real.

We are expanding the existing shower 12 inches. In addition to getting rid of the monstrosity that is there now and putting in something nice. So all the shower pipes need to be moved.

This will be for the washing machine in the laundry room and the beverage center in the kitchen drains.

After the jack hammer we needed to pull all the broken concrete out.

That exposed the sand the building was built on. Time to get the shovels out and dig down to expose the existing sewer lines that we will be tying into.

Our new kitten, Missy, loved the sand we pulled out of the holes. She really thought we did this just for her.

She was also very interested in the holes. She would make it difficult to dig sand out since she wanted to help and explore.

I was supposed to be measuring if the hole was large enough for the new plumbing but she had other ideas.

Once she let me finish my job Bill was back in doing the really important stuff. I support him in being his assistant and he makes sure our pipes do not leak.

Sewer connection for the loft's bathroom is made and ready for me to put all the sand back into the hole. I seem to do a lot of undoing what I have previously done.

I have filled in the hole and Bill has added the sewer pipe. Time for concrete to cover the sand.

Yes, you are seeing what you think you see, The pipes are in the hallway and not in the wall. We are building another wall 12 inches out to hold the pipes and to expand the shower.

This is all we can do until we get the loft floored and walls put up.Some projects we start and then have to wait to finish. That's okay. Bill hadn't planned on a bathroom up in the loft but the girls agreed with me. There will  be a Murphy's bed up there so we really did need at least a toilet and sink. We haven't decided on a shower.

Whoa

Will, the youngest grandson, is just starting to learn building skills. His first lesson was; picking out lights. Bill and I went out a month ago and looked. Found out that my husband has developed a liking for very modern fixtures. Or is it that he has always liked the modern lines and has never said anything. Have to readjust what I like to hit a happy medium on style. Then Brynnlee and I went out, made the final decisions and got everything ordered. When Will was with us we went to pick the last bit of it up. He loves lights! He kept turning around and saying, "whoa, light on." He would have happy to stick around and look at the lights all day.

The things we do to keep these grandbabies happy.

No Bugs Allowed

Every house needs at least one cedar closet. The only place we could find to put one in this house is in the third bedroom. That room will have a lot going on but there is no choice.

It's a Family Affair

Time to put the curved wall up. Need some help from either some people or a couple of octopus. Luckily, the grandkids spent the night and we have some boys to help. Then Tiffany showed up and she got to join in the fun.

Learning how a carpenter will mark when marking a board for another boards placement .

Lifting the top plate into position.

This is so exciting! Our cool wall taking shape.

Of course, our new kitty and a grand dog had to get into the action. Brynnlee was in charge of the animals.

Wyatt wants to learn how to do everything. Including putting a nail through the base plate and into the concrete.
He did it! I'm not strong enough to get it done but this 12 year old is.

Sutton had to give it a try also.

Mallory was the photographer for the day.

 Surveying the work they did.

 I love it!
